What the service does

We have a number of inpatient units that provide a safe environment for mental health assessment, treatment and therapeutic work.

These acute mental health inpatient services are part of an integrated approach to care that is delivered together with community mental health services.

How to access the service

We accept referrals to acute mental health inpatient services from:

  • community mental health services
  • GPs
  • social services
  • Emergency Duty Team

Location of service

Rathlin Ward at Knockbracken

Rathlin has accommodation for 12 men and 12 women, all in single en suite rooms.

Wards J, K and L at the Mater Hospital

These wards provide accommodation for 55 people:

  • Wards J and K are single sex wards
  • Ward L is a mixed sex ward
