Critical Care and Perioperative careers

We are delighted to confirm we are now recruiting for the new Belfast HSC Critical Care Unit and Theatre departments.

Critical Care and Theatres are part of the Unscheduled & Acute Care Directorate which consists of Anaesthetics, Critical Care, Theatres and Sterile Services. It includes Theatres, Recovery, Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, (PACU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU) and day procedure units across the 4 Hospital sites in Belfast Trust (Belfast City Hospital, Mater Hospital, Musgrave Park Hospital and Royal Victoria Hospital).

Career Pathway – Perioperative (Theatres & Recovery)

The perioperative team are required to have the requisite skills enabling the delivery of safe, compassionate quality care for patients during their preoperative, intraoperative and post-operative episodes. To ensure this high standard of care, Band 2, 3, 5 and 6 staff have the opportunity to follow a flexible career pathway in perioperative nursing. The focus of the career pathway is on core clinical roles and education and the development of knowledge and skills regardless of what stage you may be on your career journey. We will support you in every step of that journey.

Band 6 Theatres Nurse

The post holder will lead a team that demonstrates person-centred care, through role-modelling this approach to care in their own practice.

Band 5 Theatres Nurse

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care and/or the implementation and evaluation of these programmes of care.

Career Pathway – Critical Care

A new Band 5 nurse to Critical Care within the BHSCT now has an extended supernumerary period of up to 12 weeks where you are supported by the Education team, team leaders and mentors.  Following successful completion of your Step 1 competencies over a one-year period, you will have the opportunity to apply for the QUB ICU short course incorporating your Step 2 and Step 3 competencies.

As a Band 6 Critical Care nurse you will have the opportunity to work through your Step 4 competencies and develop your leadership role, working through the Edward Jenner Leadership Programme, the team will support and guide you the whole way through.

 

Band 6 Critical Care Nurse

The post holder is responsible for the assessment, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for critically ill adults in their care in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team. They will act as an effective clinical role model.

The Post holder will use specialist knowledge obtained through relevant post registration courses in caring for critically ill adults.

Band 5 Critical Care Nurse

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care and/or the implementation and evaluation of these programmes of care.

BHSCT recognises and develops the important role of Nursing and Nursing Assistants as part of their development pathway. These academic courses are provided by the Trust in partnership with the Open University and Unison or external providers.

Theatres will offer an optional rotational programme, enabling you to gain experience in a range of surgical specialities, including anaesthetics, post-anaesthesia care unit (PACU) and recovery.
