Our maternity services are provided in the following locations:
- Maternity Hospital (also known as the Royal Jubilee Maternity Service)
- Mater Hospital Midwifery-Led Unit
- community centres
- people’s homes
Our maternity services are available to women in Belfast and across the region.
Referral can be made through your community midwife or GP.
You have the following care options:
- Midwifery-led care: This is appropriate for women at low risk of complications. Midwifery-led care is provided in both the Maternity Hospital and Mater Midwifery-Led Unit.
- Consultant-led care: This is appropriate for women with more complex medical needs. Antenatal care is offered in both the Maternity Hospital and Mater Midwifery-Led Unit. Postnatal care is offered in the Maternity Hospital only.

Teaching and research
As a teaching and research centre, we regularly have students visiting the wards. They work under the direction of registered members of staff and your cooperation is appreciated.
However, we will respect your wishes if you prefer students not to be involved in any aspect of your care. Please inform a member of staff.
