Registered Dietitians (RDs) are qualified health professionals that assess, diagnose and treat diet and nutrition problems at an individual and wider public health level. Dietitians use the most up to date public health and scientific research on food, health and disease, which they translate into practical guidance to enable people to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices.
Dietetic Services
At a dietetics appointment a Dietitian will assess, discuss and advise patients on diet and nutritional health.
Specialist Dietitians within the Northern Ireland Cancer Centre provide a service to all patients receiving treatment at the NICC.

Referral
In hospital patients are referred to the nutrition and dietetic service by medical or nursing staff for dietary assessment and advice according to nutritional need.
In the community referrals are accepted from a GP or onward referral from the hospital Dietitian.
