What the service does

We ensure that blood transfusions are carried out safely across Belfast Trust.

As part of this work:
• we make sure our donors’ blood is used safely and appropriately
• we make sure all blood transfusion staff go through training that enables them to do the job to a high standard

Who provides the service

The specialist haemovigilance team is made up of nursing and biomedical science staff. They are also part of a Northern Ireland haemovigilance team. This means that safe transfusion practice is standardised as much as possible across the Trusts in Northern Ireland.

How to access the service

Staff and managers will be familiar with the haemovigilance team and can pass on any queries or concerns.

Location of service

There are two main offices:

  • The Kelvin Building at the Royal Victoria Hospital
