What the service does
The immunology service provides outpatient clinics and a day centre for adults and children with:
- allergies
- immune deficiency
- immunology conditions
We also provide a telephone consultation service for:
- Belfast Trust
- other hospitals across Northern Ireland
- GPs
Outpatient clinics
Adult outpatient clinics are on Level 6B of the outpatients building at the Royal Victoria Hospital. They take place at the following times:
- Wednesday mornings
- Thursday afternoons
Paediatric outpatient clinics are in the Children’s Hospital. They take place on Tuesday mornings.
Immunology Day Centre
The Immunology Day Centre is a ward dedicated to patients with immunological and allergic disorders.
The following care is provided in the Immunology Day Centre:
- immunoglobulin replacement therapy
- biological therapies for inflammatory diseases
- allergy skin testing
- allergy diagnosis
- allergen desensitisation, which can help some people deal with severe allergies
Additional clinics
We have a joint adult immunology and respiratory clinic called the Lung Defence Clinic. This takes place on two Tuesday afternoons each month at Belfast City Hospital.
We also hold a monthly clinic in the Children’s Hospital that covers:
- immunology
- paediatric respiratory conditions
- paediatric infectious diseases
Who provides the service
Our immunology team includes the following staff:
- one specialist doctor
- two consultants
- three specialist trainees
How to access the service
You can be referred to the immunology service by your GP or a hospital doctor.
Location of service
The Immunology Day Centre is on Ward 34 of the Elliott Dynes Building on the Royal Hospitals site.
