Located in Ward 7A at the Royal Victoria Hospital, this service provides accommodation for patients requiring isolation due to infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, viral haemorrhagic fever or chicken-pox . The ward currently has six negative pressure isolation rooms, one of which is a medium risk isolation facility.
The service may also treat returning travellers or those who have malaria
This is a regional service for people living in Northern Ireland.
How to access the service
GPs and hospital doctors can contact the service directly or can get advice about infections from the infectious disease ward.
Within office hours, there is a registrar/consultant with whom they can discuss issues; out of hours, there is a consultant in infectious disease available.
