We offer different types of imaging in our main paediatric radiology department in the Children’s Hospital. This includes:
- fluoroscopic examinations (dynamic x-ray examinations, for example barium swallow)
- MRI scans
- CT scans
- nuclear medicine
- interventional radiology
We also provide imaging services to the neonatal unit in the Maternity Hospital.
The majority of our imaging is diagnostic. It helps your doctor:
- identify the cause of symptoms
- monitor an underlying condition
Some of our examinations are also therapeutic, especially in the case of interventional examinations.
The paediatric radiology team includes:
- paediatric radiology consultants
- radiology registrars
- radiographic helpers
- admin and clerical staff
Radiology examinations can be requested by any of the following:
- hospital doctor
- specially trained nurse practitioner
We cannot provide x-ray or other examination reports over the telephone. The report will be sent to the doctor or healthcare professional who requested the examination.
If you have a query, you can contact the radiology department on 028 9615 0289.
Most appointments are between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. The main exception is baby hip ultrasounds. Some of these take place in the evenings.
We also have an out-of-hours radiographer and radiologist to deal with emergency examinations.
