What the service does

The Department of Psychotherapy provides time-limited talking therapies. These therapies are delivered either in groups or on an individual basis. The way therapies are delivered depends on assessed clinical need and appropriate treatment options.

Psychotherapy treatment is beneficial in the treatment of a range of problems, including:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • trauma
  • relationship difficulties
  • bipolar disorder
  • personality disorders
  • eating disorders

How to access the service

The Department of Psychotherapy can only accept referrals from mental health services. It can’t accept direct referrals from GPs. An up-to-date mental health assessment and risk assessment is required before referral is considered.

Location of service

Department of Psychotherapy services are mainly provided in Shimna, Unit 15, Knockbracken Healthcare Park, Belfast. An IPT clinic is also held once a week in Whiterock Health Centre, Belfast.
