What the service does

Treatment room nurses work in partnership with GP staff in health centres across Belfast.

The nurses can:

  • provide treatment
  • discuss health issues
  • refer you to other health professionals

Treatment room nurses carry out a wide range of clinical procedures and offer specialist advice on health and lifestyle issues. They provide appointments and clinics for:

  • childhood immunisations
  • travel vaccinations
  • diabetes
  • well woman
  • smears

Treatment rooms are available to all patients registered with a GP in the relevant health centre. They are also available to other patients in the following circumstances:

  • an emergency
  • where your physical condition temporarily prevents you from attending your own health centre
  • where you are resident in another area for a short time, for example a holiday

How to access the service

Your GP can refer you to the treatment room or arrange an appointment with the nurse following a consultation. After your treatment, the nurse may give you a follow-up appointment.

You can also arrange an appointment with the nurse by speaking directly to your GP receptionist. You will need to give the receptionist details of what the appointment is for.
