Staff recognition Advent Calendar

We’re getting into the festive spirit this December with our Christmas Advent Calendar, all about staff recognition 🎄

For the next 25 days, we’re saying thank you to staff from across the Trust for the incredible work they do every day.


Day Twenty-Two

Today, we celebrate Jonathan Jackson for receiving a Life Fellowship award from the College of Optometrists for his work in vision science, optometry and ophthalmology 🌟
The College of Optometrists said: “Prof Jackson has been a hospital optometrist for almost 40 years and has pursued a career in secondary care optometry, working in teaching hospitals, universities and professional colleges in Northern Ireland, England and Australia.”
Congratulations Jonathan on this amazing achievement! 🎄

Day Twenty-One

Earlier this year the Arches District Nursing Team were given the ultimate recognition for their work, the Patient’s Choice Award at this year’s RCN Awards🏆
The Arches District Nursing Team was nominated by Janette Connor. Ms Connor said: “The district nurses have gone above and beyond getting to know me as a person, my needs and what is important to me.”

Day Twenty

Today, we recognise the amazing work that the Reablement Team do, resulting in them winning the Outstanding Contribution to Social Care Award đź‘Ź
Their colleagues stated: “We wish to acknowledge their dedication to enabling older people to remain at home and live their best lives.”
Congratulations to the team! 🌟

Day Nineteen

Earlier this year we had our first ever Social Care Awards, celebrating the work of our Social Care staff.

Our Drug Outreach Team picked up the Team of the Year Award when they were nominated by their Team leader for being a team that are extremely passionate and proactive about supporting one of the most marginalized groups of people.

Day Eighteen

On Day 18, Neurohabilitation Service Manager Geraldine Laughlin congratulates the Amputee Rehabilitation Team in Musgrave Park Hospital who were awarded Outstanding Centre by Limbless Association.
The award is a real recognition of all the excellent work and expertise that is available at the centre.

Day Seventeen

Day 17 celebrates the Haematology Team winning the Advancing Healthcare Award for Creative and Innovative Practice

The team created a conservation project called ‘Team Haem Goes Green’ which was a joint initiative with their service users and The Conservation Volunteers.

The project lasted seven weeks at Knockbracken Healthcare Park and allowed the participants gain some conservation and sustainability training.

Day Sixteen

Social Workers play a vital role across our services.

Deputy Executive of Social Work, Eileen McKay pays tribute to the work and effort made by all social workers in Belfast Trust over the last year.

Day Fifteen

Day 15 of our advent calendar celebrates Debbie Sterritt who recently completed the Florence Nightingale scholarship

Debbie said: “The scholarship created some incredible leadership development for me, both personally and professionally”.

Well done Debbie!

Day Fourteen

Our Advent Calendar today is recognising the work of Biomedical Scientist, Cleovelle Enriquez.

Cleovelle was awarded her recognition certificate from laboratory colleagues for going the extra mile by taking on additional responsibilities to support her colleagues and her praise for new labs trainees.

Congratulations Cleovelle.

Day Thirteen

Not only are we getting excited for Santa coming 🎅 we’re looking forward to encompass launching in Belfast on 6th June next year!

Day Twelve

Whether it’s telling our story in the news, responding to queries from public representatives, updating our website and social media, or designing leaflets and posters, our Corporate Communications team are responsible for getting information to you.

On day 12, our Head of Communications wants to say thank you to the team for their hard work and professionalism throughout the year and wishes everyone a very Happy Christmas 🎄🎅

Day Eleven

On day 11, we congratulate Shannon Clinic Ward 1 for winning the Nursing in Mental Health award at the Nursing Times Awards 2023 🌟

The team have transformed the service by applying a model of positive behaviour support, bringing patients and staff together through compassionate person-centred leadership.

Congratulations to the whole team! 🎄

Day Ten

On day 10, we’re recognising Suzanne Morwood who is an Assistant Service Manager in our Nephrology Service.

Suzanne was awarded with a Recognition Certificate by her colleagues for going the extra mile. Her team wanted her to know how much they appreciate her for the incredible support she gives to the service.

Day Nine

Day 9 of our Advent Calendar brings us to Donna Stinson 🌟

As the Senior Professional Nurse for Mental Health, Donna was given two Staff Recognition Certificates highlighting how she puts everything into her role whilst valuing people and making sure her staff feel as though they can turn to her đź‘Ź

Day Eight

Imaging Service Manager, Sean O’Conaire was delighted to receive the award for Radiography Professional of the Year and Patient Choice Award.

Today we celebrate Sean and his colleagues from right across the service for all their efforts and the excellent patient care they provide.

Day Seven

Day in, day out, 365 days a year our Home Care staff workers to support patients in their homes.

Service Manager, Clodagh O’Brien thanks staff for their work over the year and hopes they get a well deserved break with their loved ones this Christmas.

Day Six

Everyday our catering teams support patients, staff and visitors at our hospitals but especially now at Christmas they’re busier than ever.

Catering Senior Manager pays tribute to all our catering staff working to provide quality service.

Day Five

It’s the 5th day of our advent calendar and today we’re celebrating Dr Aisling Courtney!

Dr Aisling Courtney is a consultant transplant nephrologist who took up her post as Clinical Lead for Live Donor Transplantation at Belfast City Hospital in 2009.

Aisling’s dedication is felt by her patients and everyone in her team, who were keen to share just how much she is respected and admired, through our Staff Recognition certificates.

Eamonn McErlane, Service Manager for Physical and Sensory Disability / Day Care Services. Eamonn thanks staff from across his service areas for the effort they’ve put in over 2023. 🎄

He highlights successes in the Social Care Awards earlier this year for staff and the NINES Art Exhibition. 🌟

Day Three

We’re celebrating Physiotherapist Carolyn Wilson for her contribution to the latest Journal for the British Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Limb Absence Rehabilitation (BACPAR) 🌟

Carolyn’s manager recognised how her work not only positively impacts the Trust but healthcare on a wider scale!

Day Two

Today we’re recognising Amanda McWilliams’ hard work to achieve her Occupational Health Nurse Advisor role 🎄

Amanda was placed on the NMC register part 3 at the end of October after taking part in a 2-year course whilst juggling placement days, family life and the pandemic.

Her team said: “we are so proud of Amanda and her amazing achievement. She is a dynamic and forward-thinking specialist nurse who works so well within the Occupational Health Team.” 🌟
