What the service does
The adult eating disorder service helps people aged 18 and over who have:
- anorexia nervosa
- bulimia nervosa
- other eating disorders that resemble anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa
We aim to address the physical, psychological and social needs of patients and their families.
Our treatment team can provide a range of interventions based on your physical, psychological and social needs.
Your treatment plan will be agreed with you. Treatment may include:
- restoring your weight
- improving your eating behaviours
- clarifying your diagnosis
- stable biochemistry
- addressing any psychological issues
- focusing on your occupation and career
- improving your family and social relationships
- moving from inpatient treatment to day care and outpatient treatment
- working with other mental health teams if appropriate
How to access the service
You should contact your GP, who can assess you and refer you to specialist eating disorder services if necessary. Some patients may be treated successfully by primary and secondary care.
In an emergency, you should attend your nearest Emergency Department or contact:
- your local GP out of hours
