What the service does
We provide a full range of services for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and blood disorders. Treatment for cancer is called oncology and treatment for blood disorders is called haematology. Oncology and haematology are often similar, so they both come under cancer services.

Oncology
The oncology service is based in the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital. It provides inpatient, outpatient and day case services.
The main treatments offered to oncology patients in the Cancer Centre are:
- chemotherapy (inpatient and day case procedures)
- radiotherapy (a regional service for all patients in Northern Ireland)
- brachytherapy
- ablation therapy
The oncology service also links with the four cancer units at:
- Altnagelvin Hospital
- Antrim Area Hospital
- Craigavon Hospital
- Ulster Hospital

Haematology
The haematology service is based at Belfast City Hospital. It provides inpatient, outpatient and day case services.
The main treatments offered to haematology patients are:
- chemotherapy (inpatient and day case procedures)
- radiotherapy (including total body irradiation)
- bone marrow transplants
- stem cell harvesting
- apheresis

Macmillan support and information services
There are Macmillan support and information services on two of our hospital sites.
The Macmillan Support and Information Centre at Belfast City Hospital is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm. It is closed on public holidays.

The Macmillan Information Service at the Royal Victoria Hospital is open:
- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 12.30pm
- Wednesdays from 1pm to 4pm
