What the service does
The community mental health perinatal service provides mental health treatment and support for mothers and their families during pregnancy and/or the first year of your baby’s life.
This includes mothers who have a pre-existing mental illness and require specialist perinatal/postnatal monitoring and support.
We can arrange appointments in:
- your home
- health centres
- mental health facilities across Belfast
We work closely with:
- maternity services
- community mental health teams
- GPs
- acute mental health / inpatient services
Who provides the service
The community mental health perinatal service is made up of:
- consultant psychiatrist
- social worker
- community psychiatric nurse
How to access the service
You can request a referral to the community mental health perinatal service from:
- GP
- midwife
- psychiatrist
- community mental health key worker
- other relevant health professional

Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm (excluding public holidays).
