What the service does
Physiotherapists help people of all ages improve their movement and function after illness, injury or disability. They help you become as active and independent as possible.
Physiotherapists will:
- provide treatment for conditions or injuries such as:
- lower back pain
- work-related injuries
- broken bones
- sports injuries
- whiplash
- arthritis
- help treat the effects of long-term conditions such as:
- provide treatment for patients with cancer
- provide practical guidance and advice, for example:
- how to help yourself after surgery
- how to become more physically active
- how to manage pain
- provide a range of exercise classes, for example:
- healthy heart
- healthy lungs
- healthy body
- exercise in water
- help children with:
- development
- childhood physical issues
- disability
- work with carers, families and voluntary organisations
Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Outpatients helps people who are experiencing joint pains, muscle pains, sprains and strains.
You will find information about the musculoskeletal physiotherapy service and complete the self referral form.
There are also links to self-management advice and information to help you to help yourself while you are waiting on an appointment.
How to access the service
As a hospital inpatient, you can be referred to the physiotherapy service by medical, nursing or allied health professional staff.
As an outpatient, you can access physiotherapy in a hospital or wellbeing and treatment centre if:
- you have been discharged from hospital and referred for ongoing physiotherapy
- you have been referred by a GP, consultant or other healthcare professional
You can access physiotherapy in community settings if you need an assessment or ongoing treatment and are unable to go to a hospital or wellbeing and treatment centre due to health problems. You will need to be referred by a GP or other healthcare professional.
