What the service does
The Vaccination Service provides a central location for individuals to avail of vaccinations they are eligible for. When attending for vaccination, your details and eligibility will be confirmed by the nursing team. Vaccine information will be made available to you, with help from the nurse to answer any queries you may have.
Vaccinations available are listed below:
RSV
The Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) vaccination programme aimed at protecting new born babies and older adults.
RSV is a common infectious respiratory virus that affects the breathing, particularly in young children and older adults. RSV infections often lead to mild cold-like symptoms, but in some cases, it can cause severe respiratory issues and hospitalisation.
The RSV vaccine will help protect new born babies and infants, with pregnant women being offered vaccination from 28 weeks into their pregnancy. Adults aged from 75 to 79 years of age will also be offered the vaccination.

Pertussis
The pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine is now available through the vaccinations centre as well as GP practices, making it more accessible for pregnant women.
Women can have the vaccine from 16 weeks of pregnancy, ideally up and until 32 weeks of pregnancy. However the vaccine can be beneficial even if given later than 32 weeks.
Whooping cough, also known as pertussis, is a highly contagious and bacterial infection which affects their breathing. This can make babies and young children in particular very ill.
The signs and symptoms of whooping cough include severe coughing fits accompanied by the characteristic ‘whoop’ sound in young children.
It is advisable to keep babies away from anyone showing the signs or symptoms of whooping cough.
