What the service does

Aim to Change is a specialist Assessment and Therapeutic Intervention Service for children and young people aged 10 – 17, males and females, who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviours.

Who provides the service

The Aim to Change team consists of 4 practitioners, a senior social worker and a service manager and we accept referrals in relation to children who live in the South Eastern and Belfast Trust areas as this is a service jointly funded by both Trusts.

We work with Children and young people who display Harmful Sexual Behaviour; Families or Carers of the young person; any other agencies and professionals involved with the young person. We also offer a consultation service in the first instance for all queries or referrals.

How to access the service

Referrals are accepted from Social Services and Youth Justice. This can be accessed or requested via the service email: aimtochange@setrust.hscni.net but we cannot be contacted directly by the public unless the service is already involved with your child.

Resources

In conjunction with the other regional harmful sexual behaviours services, the Health and Social Care Board and independent consultant, Marcella Leonard, we have additional training resources available on this webpage for all professionals and agencies, parents, carers, youth workers etc. who are interested in the area of harmful sexual behaviour or have concerns about a young person.

These resources include 2 narrated PowerPoints which provide training at 2 levels – Level 1 which is a general information resource on sexual development and issues that can arise; once this is completed, Level 2 can be viewed which provides a more in-depth educative session on how to manage problematic and harmful behaviours that you may be presented with, including how to create a safety plan to manage these in the home or other settings such as the school.

Level Two
Please note, the harmful sexual behaviour training videos on this website cannot be copied and shared, permission has been given for their distribution and use by the five Health and Social Care Trusts and Youth Justice only.

There is also a general information leaflet for professionals on how to manage initial referrals you may receive and the latest SBNI policy in relation to harmful sexual behaviour.
