What the service does
The Emotional Wellbeing Team in Schools (EWTS) aims to develop capacity, knowledge, confidence and relationships in post primary schools around emotional wellbeing issues, through a whole school approach. In line with the Children and Young People’s Emotional Health and Wellbeing in Schools Framework, the overall aim is for a reduction in the growth of longer term mental health difficulties.
EWTS work preventatively with young people, school staff and parents to increase awareness and knowledge around key emotional wellbeing themes and the early intervention supports available in the community and voluntary sector as well as the thresholds of and support available within CAMHS. As a result it is hoped that the universal wellbeing of young people in schools with whom EWTS has worked is supported.
Who provides the service
EWTS is a regional programme developed by Department of Health (DoH) and Department of Education (DE) in conjunction with Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) as part of the implementation of the Children & Young People’s Emotional Health and Wellbeing in Education Framework.
How to access the service
EWTS hope to offer their support to all post primary in NI over a four year period (funding dependent). Post primary schools are contacted via email each year and invited to complete an EOI (expression of interest) to sign up to the EWTS programme in their school in advance of the next academic year.
