What the service does
Our Audiology department provides a full range of screening, diagnostic and rehabilitation services related to hearing for children and young people aged 0-18 years old. We aim to provide an excellent service to our families. We offer advice and reassurance, as well as help and support for patients and families coming to terms/learning about hearing loss, listening deficits, and tinnitus/hyperacusis.
These services include:
- Newborn hearing screening
- An extensive range of hearing assessments from birth to 18 years – each test is adapted accordingly to the patient’s needs to give an accurate diagnosis
- Rehabilitation provided with a wide range of hearing aids for conductive, sensorineural and mixed hearing losses
- Supporting our ENT Consultants during their clinics and providing combined specialty sessions for a combined care approach
- Transitional service for those reaching the age of 18+ years – this ensures that the appropriate adult NHS Audiology care package is chosen for those patients who wear hearing aids.
We use up-to-date technology and techniques to create individual management plan for each one of our patients.
We work closely and in partnership with the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) department, as well as other specialities such as community paediatrics, cleft lip and palate team, and speech and language therapy. For children and young people with a hearing loss we work closely with the sensory support teams to help build an integrated service.
