Actively Connect With and Empower Carers to Get Involved
We will achieve this by working towards the following indicators:

- Co-producing the implementation of the Belfast Trust Carer Strategy in partnership with the Carer Network
- Ensuring carer representation on the Carer Strategy Committee to ensure services are carer focused
- Working in partnership with Carer Network to annually review the progress and learning from the implementation of Carer Action Plans within service areas
- Refreshing, training and supporting the Carer Network on a regular basis to ensure representation across the Belfast Trust service area
- Exploring and piloting a Young Carer Network to contribute to planning and shaping services
- Involving carers and staff to pilot and implement the Carer Partnership Model in Belfast Trust acute settings
Actively Listen & Involve Carers to Shape Services
- Engaging, reaching and providing opportunities for carers to get involved in the planning and shaping of services in the Belfast Trust and other regional working groups to communicate carer needs in commissioning services
- Valuing the carer voice by listening to and encouraging carers to give feedback regarding services through real-time feedback tools including focus groups, Care Opinion, compliments and complaints, 10,000 More Voices, co-production projects, audits and surveys
- Communicating to carers how we have changed and improved services based on feedback through a range of mediums
Advancing a Carer Peer-led Support Programme to Share Learning and Create Volunteering Opportunities
- Working in partnership with the Belfast Trust Volunteering Department to establish a Peer Carer Support Volunteer model to provide opportunities for trained carers with lived experience to support other carers
- Piloting a Belfast Trust Carer Volunteering role and assess for scale & spread.
We will measure our progress by:
- Reporting activity on the number of Carer Strategy Committee and Carer Network meetings
- Providing annual data on the numbers of carers involved at service area level in forums, committees and sub-groups to contribute to shaping and planning services and implementing Carer Action Plans
- Reporting progress and shared learning on the introduction of the Care Partnership Model in Belfast Trust acute settings
- Reporting progress on the development and piloting of a Belfast Trust Young Carer Network
- Reporting annual progress on implementing a Belfast Trust Carer Volunteering Programme
- Providing annual data on the range of feedback tools utilised within service areas and improvements made to improve the experience of carers
- Scoping and reporting on how improvements in service areas are communicated to carers as a result of their feedback and involvement in shaping Trust services.
