Health Minister, Edwin Poots today announced the appointment of a new Chairman to Belfast Trust. Mr Peter McNaney, CBE, will take up his appointment from 3 March 2014 for a period of four years. He will replace Professor Eileen Evason who has been Acting Chairman since Pat McCartan retired in December 2012.
About Mr McNaney
Mr McNaney lives in Belfast and has been Chief Executive of Belfast City Council for the last 12 years. He will retire from that position within the next few months. He has spent his 30 year career in the public sector, 18 years as a lawyer and 12 as Chief Executive.
Announcing the new appointment, Mr Poots said, “Mr McNaney has demonstrated a clear and significant record of service delivery, has exceptional networking skills and has shown evidence of highly successful application of good practice in building and managing relationships.
“He will bring excellent communication skills, strong leadership, relationship-building and problem solving skills to his role as Chairman of Belfast Trust.”
Chief Executive, Colm Donaghy welcomed the announcement and also paid tribute to the out-going Acting Chairman, Professor Eileen Evason, “I would like to thank Professor Evason for her dedicated work, both as a member of Trust Board and as Acting Chairman during the last year. Eileen has worked tirelessly for the benefit of our patients and clients, and has demonstrated excellent insight and leadership in her role as Acting Chair.”
