Be Breast Aware this month

3rd October 2022

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know that breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women in Northern Ireland?

The risk of breast cancer increases with age, but it can occur at any age.

If you notice a change or are worried about your breasts please still contact your GP.

Changes aren’t always just a lump. Breast awareness means knowing your own breasts and being aware of what changes are normal for you. Once a month is ideal and don’t forget to check your nipples and in and around your armpits too.

If you are aged between 50 and 70 and are registered with a GP, you will be invited to attend for breast screening every three years.

If you are aged over 70, all you need to do is phone your local breast screening unit to make an appointment every three years.

Many of you may have already received an invitation to attend breast screening recently. If you did not attend for any reason, you can still choose to get screened by contacting the local breast screening unit.

The best protection is early detection!

For further information, contact the Breast Screening Unit by telephone on 028 9033 3700, email or visit our Breast Screening service page.
