Briege Morgan is a Senior Pharmacy Assistant and has worked in Belfast Trust for 24 years! Here she tells us about her role in our busy Pharmacy Department:
What do you do and why do you do it?
I am a Senior Pharmacy Assistant in the Mater Hospital Belfast. I have worked for Belfast Trust for 24 years.
How do patients and service users benefit from what you do?
The pharmacy supply all wards and departments with their pharmaceutical needs on a daily basis.
Pharmacy Assistants work in wards liaising with medical staff and patients for their continued care and prepare patient medication for discharge from hospital.
Tell us about a typical day at work?
We are a small team and we work in different fields in the pharmacy; we cover work in the pharmacy stores receiving orders and processing them into stock and communicating with supply companies. On a daily basis, I process requirements for the wards and make sure there are appropriate pharmacy stock levels for patients in wards.
Tell us about the satisfaction you get from your job?
I think most people don’t realise what staff in pharmacy do but it’s a very important service and an important part of the daily running of entire hospital.
Tell us a little about your life outside of work?
Outside from work I enjoy walking and travelling when I can, I have a large family and now it has grown with nine grandchildren to enjoy!
