Last week we said farewell to Mr Peter McNaney as his time as Chairman of Belfast Trust came to an end.

Peter McNaney joined Belfast Trust in March 2014, having served as Chief Executive of Belfast City Council for 13 years and prior to that he was a successful solicitor for 20 years.

During his time with the Trust, Mr McNaney shaped and created a unitary board. He was clear on what was needed, his sharp and focused thinking and strong knowledge of governance helped us navigate many immense challenges.

A citizen of Belfast and a man driven by public service, Mr McNaney has always been adamant that this Trust plays a unique and vital leadership role within Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland and has the opportunity to constantly punch above its weight to make a difference to the population of Northern Ireland. It was very clear during his time as Chairman that Mr McNaney has a strong and ingrained desire and commitment to improve and strengthen public services for the benefit of service users and staff.

As Chairman, Mr McNaney has been to all corners of the Trust and has met with and heard from as many different members of staff as he could. Under his instruction he elevated the Chairman’s Awards to a fantastic night out to celebrate our staff and their achievements.

Belfast Trust Chief Executive Dr Cathy Jack said,

“I hope Mr McNaney will look back fondly on the people he has met during his time as Chair. Most importantly, I very much hope he leaves with a sense of achievement and fulfilment. Peter, thank you for your leadership, your courage and your robust support.”
