This week (1-7) August is World Breastfeeding Week, an annual global campaign that aims to raise awareness and galvanise action on breastfeeding and related issues.
Breastfeeding is part of everyday life, but today’s culture can often make women doubt their ability to provide milk for their baby. Widespread promotion of infant formula also implies that formula is as good as breast milk. However, research has proven breastmilk cannot be replicated.
Breast milk is unique for each baby. It contains important protective and nutritional factors that change to meet the growing needs of the baby.
Deciding how to feed your baby is a very personal decision and we support all mothers to choose how they want to feed their baby. Our team also recognise the importance of breastfeeding and we will support mothers to breastfeed for as long as they would like.
At Belfast Trust we have dedicated Infant Feeding Leads and a Community Infant Feeding Team who support women who choose to breastfeed.
