We were delighted once again to mark Belfast Pride. As a Health and Social Care provider and employer, the Trust is committed to ensuring that our services, facilities, and our staff provide an inclusive and welcoming experience for everyone equally regardless of who they are or who they love. As an inclusive employer we observe and celebrate diverse events for our staff and the people we serve.
As part of our programme of events, we invited staff to submit a piece of art for our Annual Pride Art Competition. The theme this year was ‘United in Pride’. We received a total of 12 entries and what we discovered is that we have some incredibly creative and artistic talent among our colleagues. Paintings, poems and crochet were some of the submissions we received. These were recently displayed in Knockbracken Hall for our judging panel which comprised Ciaran Mulgrew, the Trust’s Chair, Paula McHugh, our Arts in Health Co-Ordinator and Fidelma Carolan, Senior Consultant from the Leadership Centre.
Our judges were hugely impressed by the clear artistic talent across all the entries. First prize went to Pauline Dorcas, who produced a vividly coloured, inclusive painting, second went to Mark Barclay, who produced a piece featuring an iconic building in the new extended rainbow colours and third prize went to Nicola Doole, who used mixed media (tie-dye, fabric manipulation on canvas, which was entitled Equal but Unique. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd are vouchers for £50, £30 and £20.
The superb art pieces can be viewed in the online art gallery below. You can also view the artwork in the following Belfast Trust locations:
