Belfast Trust is inviting carers to help us shape the development of a new Care Partnership model for acute wards in our hospitals.

The Care Partnership model is a new initiative that will develop and encourage carers to continue their caring role whole their loved on is in hospital.

Understanding carers’ changing needs and recognising carers as equal partners is a continuing theme in the Carers Strategy. In 2024 a different approach called ‘Care Partnership’ was introduced as a way to recognise and value carers. The principles of Care Partnership came from John’s Campaign which stressed the importance of family or carers staying with people living with dementia, anxiety and other complex needs while in hospital. Moving away from seeing the carer as a visitor, instead it recognises carer-givers as an integral part of that person’s life and identity and often their best means of connection with the world.

We are hoping to introduce the initiative with a select group of identified wards in acute service. Our services would value your feedback and recommendations on how we best take it forward, implement and develop.

Is this something you would like to contribute to and help shape the partnership? This engagement event is for you.

The event takes place Friday 11 October 2024, 10.30am to 12.30pm, at the Arches Wellbeing and Treatment Centre.

Registration is not required but if you would like to register ahead of Friday you can do so by completing the online form.
