Internationally Qualified Social Workers Celebrated at Short Film Launch

23rd October 2025

Our internationally qualified social workers were recently celebrated at an event which launched their short film about working in the social care sector in Belfast Trust.

The event was held in Belfast’s MAC Theatre and hosted by Wendy Austin, with a number of compelling panel talks discussing the value of diversity in social care.

David Wylie, Service Manager for Workforce, Learning & Development Service, opened the event by welcoming colleagues and speaking about the Trust’s commitment to creating a diverse, inclusive and supportive working environment.

Approximately 110 internationally qualified social workers are currently registered with the NI Social Care Council. Hearing from a number of these social workers gave the audience an insight into the practicalities of completing registration, as well as the many tangible benefits that a diverse background brings.

Closing the event, Eileen McKay, Deputy Executive Director of Social Work, thanked all participants for their support, paying warm tribute to the unique value that international social workers bring to the service across Belfast Trust.
