Carers Week 2023 Launched

5th June 2023

Belfast Trust is delighted to participate in Carers Week 2023, focusing on this year’s theme of ‘recognising and supporting carers in the community’.

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities. It also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.

Across Belfast, there are over 40,000 people providing unpaid and family care to loved ones and Belfast Trust recognises the invaluable support that carers play in our local communities.

Claire Fordyce, Carers Service Manager, said: “In Belfast Trust we are committed to ensuring that carers are at the heart of everything that we do. We have developed a Carer Network who have worked with the Trust.  We have also listened to carers from across Belfast to hear what are the key priorities for carers.

“We have brought together all of this information and have developed ‘Caring Together in Belfast 2023 Onwards.’ This is our five year plan which sets out how we will support carers for the next five years.”

‘Caring Together in Belfast 2023 Onwards’ focuses on four key areas.  These are to:

  1. Reach all carers
  2. Navigate carer support
  3. Support carer health and wellbeing
  4. Connect with and involve carers

As part of Carers Week, Belfast Trust Carers Support Service have organised a range of events for carers focused on support and wellbeing. You can view the full programme of events here.
