Spectacular views across Belfast from the Royal Victoria Hospital provided the perfect inspiration for a recent Charcoal Sketching Workshop held as part of the Creative Staff Wellbeing Programme. Led by artist and architect Michael Doherty, participants learned how to work with charcoal and sketch a cityscape.  The work created demonstrated a fantastic range of styles of work from a range of viewpoints across the city.

Sarah Foster Jarden, Mental Health Day Care Worker, said: “it was an amazing mindfulness exercise trying something new in such a lovely group and with a great tutor.”

Sharon Shaw from the Amputee Rehab Centre at Musgrave said: “I enjoyed meeting likeminded, friendly, encouraging people doing the same things that you love doing too”.

She added: “The location was excellent! absolutely amazing views. I normally just draw from photographs as wouldn’t have the courage to go outside and start drawing somewhere in real life, so it was great to get out of your comfort zone. ”

Nicky Bodel, a midwife, said: “it was lovely to meet and connect with staff from other areas in the Trust.” She added that it was a “…lovely opportunity to relax and be mindful.”

The Creative Staff Wellbeing Programme is delivered by the Arts in Health team with support from the Trust’s Charitable Funds.
