Our occupational therapy and physiotherapy departments were delighted to run the Belfast OTs and Physios in it together (BOP it) Therapy Group again this summer in Girdwood Community Hub.
The BOP it Group is a joint venture between our occupational therapy and physiotherapy departments for children with cerebral palsy who attend mainstream education primary school.
The children and their families, along with the child’s physiotherapist or occupational therapist, set goals of what they hope to achieve by the end of the week long programme with some children learning to skip and ride a bicycle.
As part of the group, our teams worked in partnership alongside Disability Sport NI, Ulster GAA and a local football group to deliver activities encourage the children to try out new sports.
The aim through the group is to encourage the children to be active, exercise throughout the year, and not let their disability stop them.
The feedback from the group highlighted how much the children loved meeting other children who understood some of the challenges they face.
“My child benefitted from interaction with other children who also wore splints. There is no one else in his Primary School with the same issues. This has also increased his confidence.”
